Adult Education next week, March 24: Pastor Gilo Agwa will share with us how the Asylee process works. Gilo came to this country as an Asylee in 2011 and his family arrived as Asylees in 2014. To be an asylee, a person has to show proof that his life is in danger if he returns to his home country and then must go through the legal process and wait for clearance to stay in the USA until his application for Asylum is granted. Pastor Agwa will share how difficult it was for his family while waiting for approval to join him here in the USA. Pastor Agwa has a Masters of Divinity degree from Dubuque University Seminary in Iowa. Pastor Gilo is employed as a part-time Chaplain at Good Samaritan in Stillwater and also as a part-time leader of the joint Ministry for the Ethopian immigrants and refugees in Minnesota sponsored by the SPAS of the ELCA and the Presbyteria of the Twin Cities Area.
Stephen Ministry — In I Thessalonians 5 Paul writes, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up… Encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.” God has called us all to build up and encourage one another. For those who are experiencing a difficult time, our Stephen Ministers are providing the special encouragement, care, and support needed. Please keep Our Savior’s Stephen Ministers and their care receivers in your prayers! Prayer matters!
Wednesday Lenten Soup Suppers from 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm. You can sign up to bring a soup, dessert, and/or be part of the clean up crew for Wednesday Soup Suppers. Go to the church website at www.oslcstillwater.org or, just sign-up on the sheet located on the Welcome Desk and the office will sign you up online.
Valley Outreach Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign — Help feed a family, with either a monetary donation or a donation of food! Feed a family with your favorite family meals by providing the ingredients for each recipe your family members enjoy (excluding items requiring refrigeration)! Big blue bins are available in the OSLC Gathering Area for you to drop off your food items. Checks can be placed in the “Drop Box” on the Welcome Desk (please make checks out to “Valley Outreach”). Envelopes are available by the drop box if you care to use. Thank you for caring about others!
Weaving Together The Community of OSLC — As we explore the “Life of the Beloved Community” this Lenten season we are inviting you to add your unique choices and ideas to our weaving project. Every member of our faith community adds a unique and important “thread” in the tapestry that we call “Our Savior’s Lutheran Church”. You will see the weaving loom attached to the wall just around the corner of the sanctuary doors, across from the office. We invite you to dig into the baskets of materials, choosing colors that you like and adding them to the weaving. It is easy—just go over, under, over, under—and repeat—for as little or as long as you wish. Simple instructions will be posted—but, really, you can make it up as you go along! But wait-there’s more. Feel free to bring items from home to add to the weaving. Some ideas: a favorite family photo, a scrap of fabric from a relative you want to remember, beads, a line of poetry, a printed out prayer you love. The list really is endless as this weaving will reflect US. Just attach it to the vertical warp threads and it will always be a part of the tapestry of members we call OSLC.
Call for Weavers — Do you have experience in weaving? If so, would you consider helping make this project come to life? Contact Charlotte Schuld at 651-491-2722, or email@example.com.
